Maia Hirasawa, Liseberg
My first try to photograph a concert. Took a lot of pictures, but most of them were trash. Had to throw away 85% of them because people stood in the way, the subject blinked or grimaced in a wierd way, etc.
Borrowed a friend’s Canon EF 70-200/4 L IS USM for this very purpose. The lens worked well, can’t say I would have missed the particular zoom range down to 300mm (compared to the Canon EF 70-300/4-5,6 IS USM). Thought I was going to get a least a couple of good shots, but even at 200mm/f4 it was hard (read: impossible) to get a blurry background because the background was way too close to the subject (which I realized afterwards).
Obviously not too happy with the result, but very thankful to get the opportunity to practice. Since optimal lenses would cost me 3-4 monthly salaries, I guess this is as close I can get gear-wise for a concert setup. Pictures are not too bad (for a first-timer), but I don’t really like anyone much at all. Too bad, it was a great performance and good weather.
Time to watch those videos on KelbyOne about concert photography.
